TIGHT WEEK Week 7 was a tight one in the the Weinkopf.com football pool. Only three wins separated the best. Steel Man Joe took the week with 8 correct picks, and Kenny the Poor Deluded Pats Fan, Hail to the Redskins Scott, and VivaLas49ers Jason cashed in with the week's worst at 5. Al in all, the overall rankings don't change much. Hoboken Headhunters Cris, still in first place, has expanded her lead over Lakewood Lancers Dave by 1, and Steel Man Joe, who remains in third place, has narrowed the gap between himself and the leaders. That makes him the new "one to watch." I happily report that while I'm technically in 8th place, I'm only one win behind El49er, RedskinBoy, and PPDF, who are tied for fifth place, and two wins behind StaceyDawg who's in fourth. All of which means that my moment of glory is fast approaching. As for our collective wisdom: There were three games that we picked almost unanimously last week: Washington vs. NYG, Pittsburgh vs. Tenn., and the Flutie Bowl in SD (ShadowWalker, PPDF, and the Steel Curtainrod were the lone dissenters, respectively.) And we were 1-2 in those picks. Ouch. On another note, Benny the Steel Curtain was unable to make up any ground in his quixotic drive to overtake Coher. You're still 22 games back, kiddo. Till next week, Chris, (still) the Mighty Mighty Pats Fan (even now) Monday, October 29, 2001
"PROGRESSIVES" FOR TERROR My latest L.A. Daily News column is about accused domestic terrorist Sara Jane Olson, the toast of the city's "progressives." In left-wing circles, it seems, terrorism is still cool. |
