    TWO NEW COLUMNS
The return of the Pledge of Allegiance is another hopeful sign that the tyranny of political correctness is coming to an end, and for that, our president deserves much of credit. Read about it in my latest FrontPage column, Bush Brings Back the Pledge.

On a more personal note, I've been waging a war of my own against the roof rats that have set up light housekeeping in my attic. That has me wondering about what the animal-rights radicals would do if they ever got their paws on me. Read about that in Sunday's Daily News column, Even the vilest creature gets a lawyer.

    HEARTBROKEN IN HOBOKEN
In this topsy-turvy NFL season, where teams like the once pitiful Bears can overcome a two-touchdown deficit to defeat the now-respectable Browns in 38 seconds, anything can happen. (Thanks, BTW, to Cleveland for throwing that INT in OT, thereby letting Chicago cover the spread.)

And last weekend in the Weinkopf.com Football Pool, anything did happen. For one, Dave "Lakewood Lancers" Coher regained his hold on first place with an impressive 9 wins. He was aided in his ascent by Cris AKA Hoboken Headhunters, who put in the week's worst performance (tied with Steel Bedskirt Ben Kepple) at 4, thereby ending her one-week reign.

Speaking of the Squeal Curtain, it should be pointed out that Ben's comeuppance came right after his cocky prediction that the (then) 19-point gap between himself and Coher "will steadily close." That gap, by the way, now stands at 24.

Now, let us discuss that "One To Watch" message recently posted by VivaLas49ers Jason.

I was wondering how long it would take someone to catch this. On Oct. 9, Jason noted that the "One To Watch" label is the equivalent of a Sport Illustrated cover -- "the kiss of death." So since then, I have been applying the title strategically, and letting it work its wonders. Following my mighty mighty 9-win week, I have now overtaken Keny the Poor Deluded Pats Fan, StaceyDawg54, and Hail to the Native Americans Scott to take sole possession of fith place. I am now but 1 win behind Jason, 3 behind Steel Man Joe and 8 behind Coher himself.

Looks like the curse has worked nicely.

Which reminds me, Jason racked up a tidy 9 wins last week, after a few consecutive off-weeks. Clearly he is on the rise. Clearly, he is The One To Watch.

On another note, our conventional wisdom has been disproved yet again! The one game we all picked the same was SD over KC by 5.5 -- and wouldn't you know it, Doug Futile let us all down. The other pick that most of us were certain about was Pittsburgh over Baltimore -- Coher alone dissented in that pick, and Coher alone got it right.

On the subject of REALLY BAD, if there was one "lock of the week" last week, it had to be the so-so Dolts over the hapless Jills with NO LINE! What in the world were those of you picked the Jills (Dave, Joe, and Ben) thinking?

Well, 8 weeks down and 9 to go and the Weinkopf.com Football Pool just keeps getting hotter. Will Cris recover? Who will get a job first, her or Coher? Will Ben ever live up to his hype? Will the Pats and their mighty mightiest fan remain mighty mighty, or is more poor delusion in the cards?

    Stay tuned ...
