THE GAP WIDENS Having racked up her second double-digit week, Hoboken Headhunters Cris has built on her lead over Dave "Lakewood Lancers" Coher in the Weinkopf.com Football Pool. She now holds a safe six-point lead, and is clearly the one to beat -- and the One To Watch -- as the NFL season starts to wind down. At the top of last week's heap, along with Cris, is yours truly, the Mighty Mighty Pats Fan. I'm happy to report my first double-digit performance, and note that it has pushed me past Steel Man Joe and VivaLas49ers Jason for sole possession of third place. Even more spectacularly, I am now a mere three games behind Coher, which, truthfully, I never would have imagined. (Not too shabby for a guy who spent the first third of the season in the basement.) This week's booby prize goes to Fourth and Ten, AKA Bob Smiley, my brother-in-law, who netted just 5 correct picks. Welcome back to the pool, Bob, and don't worry, the water's bound to get warmer. Mindful that he often forgets to submit his picks on time, Bob has gone ahead and made all his choices for the rest of the season -- without even seeing the lines. This should be a good test of his prophetic powers. Another noteworthy development is the name change of Kenny, who is no longer deluded, and who is now the Poor Hopeful Pats Fan. As well he should be -- the way Tom Brady (Miller Lite Player of the Week) carved up the much-vaunted Ain'ts defense. Go Pats! What a great season it's been! And on, we go to week 12. Will Cris hang on? Will Coher get his groove back? Will I continue my mighty mighty ascent? Has the Steel Man collapsed? And what ever happened to the Steel Chicken? Inquiring minds want to know. Yours, the Mighty Mighty Pats Fan |
